<p>So here&#8217;s the deal &#8211; I&#8217;m asking YOU and want YOUR opinion.</p>
<p>I would like to answer your Top 3 Questions on Funding. Anything&#8230;no question too small or too large.</p>
<p>If there is a question you have on getting your business funded either add it as a comment below or shoot me an email via the contact us page.</p>
<p>What will happen then?</p>
<p>Then I&#8217;ll pull the questions together and create a video answering the most popular questions. Might be fun to see how many I can answer if ten minutes or some such challenge and when I don&#8217;t have a good answer (and that happens often &#8216;cos no one has all the answers right?)&#8230;I&#8217;ll loop in some buddies who have deeper expertise in certain areas.  So one way or another &#8211; you should get an answer&#8230;</p>
<p>All you have to do is to wake up from your lethargic state &#8211; sit up a little straighter in your chair, lean forward, take action and hit that comment box below with your pearls of questioning wisdom.  And you will probably get a good answer back. 			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>If you are one of my coaching student&#8217;s then you already know that this weekend is a personal celebration weekend in my household&#8230;its my daughter&#8217;s birthday&#8230;.</p>
<p>That means getting woken up early by a child jumping up and down on my head &#8211; thankfully its not Christmas early&#8230;.</p>
<p>Then getting dressed, throwing the espresso machine into high gear, grabbing a chocolate croissant and running out the door with the full family in tow.</p>
<p>(you&#8217;ve seen the movie Home Alone right?&#8230;.Someone remind me to count everyone as we leave <img src='http://www.thefundingguru.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' />  )</p>
<p>But &#8211; Why the rush??</p>
<p>Because we have big birthday plans in New York City Baby&#8230;</p>
<p>First up a brunchie breakfast in a landmark hotel&#8230;perhaps if the waiters and the concierge aren&#8217;t looking, perhaps we&#8217;ll ride the elevators to the top floor to check out the view&#8230;.</p>
<p>Then its off to an afternoon matinee of my daughter&#8217;s soon-to-be favorite Broadway Show.</p>
<p>And afterwards&#8230;Ice cream!</p>
<p>Tomorrow promises to be a HIGH Carbs day but tough&#8230;its a day for breaking all the rules.</p>

<p>I was asked a question by one of my readers this morning which got me thinking&#8230;</p>
<p>The Question was&#8230;.</p>
<p><span style="color: #333333;"><em>&#8220;Andrew&#8230;.What is the #1 BIGGEST mistake new startup founders make when hunting for Angel Investors?&#8221;</em></span></p>
<p>Good question &#8211; and it got me thinking&#8230;</p>
<p>So in no particular order &#8211; my&#8230;</p>
<h2>Top 10 Angel Investor Mistakes Made by New Startup Founders:</h2>
<ol>
<li>Not having a game plan to find the <em>right</em> angel investors &#8211; shooting out arrows and thinking at least one will land</li>
<li>Thinking all Angel Investors are just focused on making money</li>
<li>Underestimating just HOW LONG it takes to find, engage, convince and lock in the <em>right</em> Angel Investors</li>
<li>Focusing on the money instead of the chemistry between you and the potential angels</li>
<li>Not understanding the underlying motives/needs of angel investors</li>
<li>Having no clue about the difference between a good and a lousy deal</li>
<li>Thinking a great idea is enough&#8230;</li>
<li>Being overly concerned about &#8216;protecting your idea&#8217; (an idea which is probably in the market in at least ten different ways already&#8230;)</li>
<li>Asking for an NDA</li>
<li>Looking for money instead of relationships</li>
<li>Bonus&#8230;&#8230;.Never taking real action</li>
</ol>
<p>The reality is this list could quickly get into the hundreds and that&#8217;s not because Startup Founders aren&#8217;t really smart&#8230;.</p>
<p>Its just because its new and somehow new founders come with all sorts of assumptions that just aren&#8217;t true&#8230;.</p>
<p>So what should you do if you are a new Startup Founder?</p>
<h2>Three partial solutions for you:</h2>
<p>1) Find a good mentor</p>
<p>2) Research your socks off</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Wow!  Held my first webinar last night focused on &#8216;How to Get Angel Investors&#8217;. Boy was it a train wreck!</p>
<p>Why? Well, the webinar maxed out with 100 attendees plus me&#8230;.fantastic!</p>
<p>People were engaged &#8211; asked questions &#8211; were engaged&#8230;.great!</p>
<p>I focused on some real and specific &#8216;things you can do tomorrow&#8217; to go out and start making REAL traction with angel investors&#8230;amazing!</p>
<p>And we spent two hours going through some great content &#8211; an hour over schedule and most of the 100 people stayed active and tuned in&#8230;incredible!</p>
<p>So why was it a train wreck?</p>
<p>Because I, jackass that I am, in my complete nervousness with my first webinar FORGOT to press the Go-To-Webinar button to SHARE my screen&#8230;.</p>
<p>Yep! 100 people stuck around for two hours&#8230;LISTENING ONLY to the webinar and I didn&#8217;t know how to read the comments from folks saying &#8220;Hey Andrew &#8211; can&#8217;t see the slides&#8230;.&#8221; or &#8220;Slides please&#8230;&#8221;</p>
<p>Two hours of NO slides &#8211; just blank page&#8230;.and people stayed on the line. The mind boggles!</p>
<p>Thank you if you were on the call&#8230;I apologize for my technological ineptitude!</p>
<p>During the call I outlined that we&#8217;ll be offering something we&#8217;ve NEVER done before&#8230;.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>So what does the Science of Getting Rich &#8211; a one hundred year old business book have to do with entrepreneurs, startups and fund raising?</p>
<p>There were a few key reasons why I like this book&#8230;</p>
<h3><em><span style="color: #ffffff;"><strong>1) Its short &#8211; end to end 66 pages so you can consume its in just about one sitting.</strong></span></em></h3>
<h3><em><span style="color: #ffffff;">2) It suggests you should not be concerned about the competition</span></em></h3>
<p>&#8230;if you do, you&#8217;ll get all tied up and stop being creative.  This is key for entrepreneurs &#8211; especially first timer entrepreneurs who seem scared to death that their wonderful idea will be &#8216;stolen&#8217;. I am going NUTS at how many times entrepreneurs have asked for NDAs and been reticent to tell anyone about their ground breaking idea because they&#8217;re afraid it will get snatched by someone.</p>
<p>Here&#8217;s a wake up call &#8211; There are no new ideas and even fresh ideas are exploding inside the heads of more than one person at any one time. Strange but true. How many people were working on the atom bomb at the same time? On the wireless? How many burger companies exist? Just one? Nope!</p>
<p>&#8230;but here&#8217;s the deal&#8230;the value is in GETTING IT DONE!</p>
<p>Not the idea itself &#8211; the idea is a vague recipes at best..probably not even that&#8230;</p>
<p>How you and I would inteprete the same idea will be completely different and guess what?</p>
<p>The customer will make you change your wonderful idea once you introduce it to them &#8211; providing you are LISTENING.</p>
<p>And here&#8217;s a tip &#8211; if you want to sell the output of your idea &#8211; listen to the customer and be prepared to kill your darlings. Your ideas are NOT the secret sauce &#8211; honest! Its how you make them happen &#8211; YOU are the secret sauce!</p>
<h3><em><span style="color: #ffffff;">3) Get Out of the Competitive plateau and become a creator</span></em></h3>
<p>Huge! This is the secret to entrepreneurial success &#8211; create. Don&#8217;t have idea and let them languish - create them, make them happen, create improvements in the world by adding to it. If you do and combine it with #2 above. Success!</p>
<h3><em><span style="color: #ffffff;">4) Give more to your customers in use value than you take from them in cash value.</span></em></h3>
<p>Also HUGE! If you do this consistantly &#8211; you create brand evangelist, people who will sell you and your products for free through word of mouth. It will become a viral phenominon.  Also, they will be customers FOR LIFE. The life time cash value will be enormous providing you take heed of #3 above and create more and more great products.</p>
<p>All in all &#8220;The Science of Getting Rich&#8221; is a must read &#8211; get through the old language and a bit of the &#8216;supreme spirit&#8217; stuff &#8211; take from it what you find valuable and you will benefit enormously.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Over the past few months I&#8217;ve taken an interest and gotten to know Erik Luhrs.</p>
<p>For those that haven&#8217;t had that good fortune &#8211; Eric is an advisor to some senior business people giving his expertise in the sales arena after created the GURUS Selling System.</p>
<p>Eric can do a better job than I can outlining how his selling system is different than other &#8216;techniques&#8217; out there but as I tend to help entrepreneurs, perhaps you are wondering why this is relevant to you?</p>

<p>Eric approach resonates with me personally because one of the core components is focused on business people being their genuine selves. In my opinion, people, dogs and even babies are programmed to spot BS &#8211; and the only way you can truly have a long term relationship with ANYONE is if you are genuine and true to who you are and your core.</p>

<p>In my opnion therefore, learning how to &#8216;sell&#8217; but from a place of authenticity and genuineness is CRITICAL.</p>

For those that haven&#039;t had that good fortune - Eric is an advisor to some senior business people giving his expertise in the sales arena after created the GURUS Selling System.

Eric can do a better job than I can outlining how his selling system is different than other &#039;techniques&#039; out there but as I tend to help entrepreneurs, perhaps you are wondering why this is relevant to you?

Eric approach resonates with me personally because one of the core components is focused on business people being their genuine selves. In my opinion, people, dogs and even babies are programmed to spot BS - and the only way you can truly have a long term relationship with ANYONE is if you are genuine and true to who you are and your core.
